Global Trade

1) Do you consider these sort of relationships to be an inevitable part of global trade?

Relationships in global trade are deplorable. If they had a good relationship, there would be more peace in the world. I think developed countries treat developing or undeveloped countries as if they were “slaves“, due to the fact that rich-countries receive more profit from a product than the poor ones. In fact, I may say rich-countries cheat on poor-countries. In my opinion, these sorts of relationships aren't inevitable for global trade, nevertheless we think they are because they seize power. What´s more, people from developed countries weren't the ones who worked under bad conditions and receive very little money. Everyone should earn the same amount of money, but in that case, rich-countries would think they are starting to lose their power cause they are not “better“ or “richer“ than the other countries. World trade is unfair, and poor-countries should protest for their rights. As a conclusion, I think that if they put desire and energy to have what rich-countries owe them, they can.

2) Should factors such as the environment, human health or the gap between rich and poor play a greater role in international relation, whatever the cost?

I hardly believe those factors should play a greater role in international relations. I think workers' rights are not taken into account, which I consider the most important issue. Companies only/main concern is to earn more and more money, but do not take into account the people who are working, or the environment they are destroying. That same environment where they live, thanks to everything they do, pollution has increased a lot, with several consequences.

3) What is your own opinion about the issue?

I think that global trade is beneficial for the entire world, however in this way the richest countries are benefited. Goods that were manufactured in developing countries, the workers didn't benefit as equal as the company, if not they worked in horrible conditions and in clandestine workshop, and the developed countries take advantage and sell the goods much more than the wage of a worker that made it. Also, I believe that we, the consumers, have to stopped buying the products of these industries.

4) What more you can find out about this issue? Make a summary of the different opinions you find

“Do you think that the World Trade Organization is beneficial?“ is the question a debate group asked to themselves. I have two opinions about it:

Firstly, I do not think that the World Trade Organization is beneficial and lacks any type of leadership and intervention in economic affairs. I think that it is seen more as a figure head, and the WTO has never helped a country's economy grow or stepped into bad trades between countries.

If there were free trade for all then limits on resources would need to be considered more otherwise for example forests would be devastated which would have an effect on biodiversity and indigenous communities. Also it appears that it is selective in decision making and there is more of a western influence than power in developing countries hands. I would be interested to see what other people think however.
